Betty is a character on Franklin, appearing in the story "Franklin and Betty." She’s Beaver’s cousin, but it is unknown through which means this is the case. She is voiced by Stephanie Beard.
History[]
Betty and her cousin Beaver encounter Franklin while he is making sandcastles at the pond. The two of them quickly become friends thanks to their shared interests, including making up games about knights and dragons. Though the two want to spend more time together, Betty ends up getting called away by Beaver, who wants the two of them to swim together.
Betty later plays soccer with Franklin and his friends, playing on Franklin's team. She takes off her pink sweater for greater mobility and Franklin gives her one of his scarves to help distinguish her from Beaver, as Betty is on Franklin's team, and Beaver is on the opposite one. Betty proves to be a capable player, getting the ball away from the opposing team and passing it to Franklin to score a goal on Goose.
Afterwards, the two teams celebrate by going for ice cream at Mr. Skunk's shop. There, Betty invites Franklin to finish their sandcastle. Beaver, annoyed, says that she was visiting her, so Betty suggests they go to the library. Beaver likes this idea until Betty suggests that she could get some books on sandcastles to show Franklin, leading Beaver to grumble that she knew there was a reason she wanted to go. The two leave, and then Fox and Rabbit tease Franklin by saying that Betty is his girlfriend. Betty then re-enters, giving Franklin her silver horse pin in exchange for him having given her his scarf. She leaves again and the entire remaining group giggles at Franklin, leading him to comment, "She's not my girlfriend!"
Embarrassed, Franklin begins avoiding Betty. When she finally catches up with him, he tells her that Beaver wants her to spend more time with her. Bear asks why he did this and he explains that he doesn't want everyone to think she's his girlfriend. Bear tells him to not let the teasing bother him, that he even heard Fox say that he likes Betty and that Rabbit had asked her to be on his ball team. Betty, however, had said she was already doing something with Franklin. Realizing he's made a mistake, Franklin heads to Beaver's house. There, he finds Betty and apologizes for his behavior, explaining about the teasing. He asks if she still wants to work on the sandcastle, and she bluffs him, saying that they can't work on their sandcastle... because the fire-breathing dragon won't let them out her lair. Beaver insists on being a beautiful princess instead and the three begin a new game.
Personality[]
Betty is both athletic and imaginative. She enjoys sports, but also enjoys playing made up games such as knights and dragons. She is open and pleasant and quickly makes friends with others, such as Franklin. She holds her own well against the dominating personality of her cousin, Beaver.
Appearance[]
Beaver and her cousin Betty are extremely similar in appearance. Betty is slightly shorter than Beaver and possibly a bit younger. She also lacks Beaver's facial whiskers and her fur is a slightly lighter brown than Beaver's. Despite this, she can be very difficult to distinguish from her cousin when not wearing her usual light pink sweater. She also often wears a silver horse pin on the shirt, though she later gives this to Franklin after he gives her one of his red scarves to help distinguish her from Beaver.
Trivia[]
- "Franklin and Betty" is Betty's only appearance in the franchise. She does not appear in the spinoff series Franklin and Friends and it is thus unclear if she exists within that continuity.
