Franklin Wiki

Eagle is an eagle who appears in the film Franklin and the Green Knight. Though she at first seems scary, she proves to be an ally to Franklin and Snail, helping them on their quest to find spring.

Plot[]

Franklin and Snail are in the forest on the edge of Woodland, searching for an orchard with a cherry tree that they believe contains magic blossoms that will help them to spring to the village, which has been locked in a deep winter. As they begin to despair of being lost, they hear Eagle's call overhead. The sound grows louder and then Eagle lands in front of them. She comments that it's not every day that you see a turtle with a snail on his back. Stunned, Franklin draws his paper toy sword, believing her to be a monster like the dragon that the Green Knight and his Squire faced in the story The Quest of the Green Knight. She, however, tells him that she's no monster and that she has no wish to do with battle with him.

Eagle in Flight

Franklin and Snail flying with Eagle

Eagle asks Franklin and Snail what they're doing there in the woods. Franklin puts away the sword, explaining about their quest for spring and how they're searching for the cherry orchard. Eagle says that she knows it, but that it's quite far away and that it would be best for her to take them. Thus, she offers them a ride and she flies them over a valley in her talons, the two of them enjoying a thrilling view. She deposits them on the edge of a brook, but then hears a chirping and tells them that her eaglets need her. Snail is impressed at her being a mother. She departs, telling them to raise their voices to the wind if they need her.

Later, after Franklin and Snail have succeeded in finding the cherry blossoms, they start to bring them back home, only to find themselves at the edge of a cliff and the blanket cape that Franklin was using to hold them snagged on a cliff branch. They despair, but then realize what they must do, and call for Eagle. She gives them back a ride to Bear's home, where their family and friends have gathered and were about to launch a search party. As Franklin and Bear reunite with their families, she sits preening her feathers. Beaver asks wonderingly who she is and is alarmed when Eagle turns to her. She cowers on the ground, but then laughs with delight as Eagle nuzzles the fur on her chest with her beak. Franklin introduces her to the group and Mrs. Turtle thanks her for bringing Franklin and Snail back. She agrees that she's glad to have helped, but must be getting back to her eaglets. As she flies away, everyone shouts their goodbyes, Beaver telling her to not be a stranger.

Trivia[]

Eagle

Eagle standing before Franklin and Snail

  • She is the only eagle seen to date in the franchise. She is one of the largest animals ever seen in the franchise, large enough to easily give Franklin and Snail a ride by holding Franklin in her talons.
  • Although she is said to be a mother, she breaks the normal naming pattern seen on the series by being known simply as "Eagle" instead of "Mrs. Eagle" or "Miss Eagle." The reason for this is unknown.
  • Her voice actress, Elizabeth Hanna, is also the voice of Mrs. Fox.
