Franklin Wants A Pet is the second segment of the first episode in the first season of Franklin.

Summary[]

Franklin still loves Sam, his stuffed dog, and tries to convince his parents that he is ready for a real pet, but he has trouble trying to decide what sort of pet he wants. So he sets out to prove that he can take good care of a pet if they buy him one.

Quotes[]

  • Franklin: "I always wanted a real pet. I guess I thought maybe I got my wish."
  • Franklin: "I guess if talking's better than thinking, then seeing is better than talking."
  • Franklin: "Meet my new pet... Goldie!"
  • Franklin: "Look, Sam. Goldie is sort of gold and silver and every color at once. Watching her swim around makes me feel kind of all nice inside. You see, Sam? (hugging Sam) Goldie is your friend, too."

Trivia[]

  • This episode features the debuts of:
    • Goldie, Franklin's pet goldfish
    • Sam, Franklin's stuffed dog
    • Otter, one of Franklin's friends
  • The following scenes were used in the intro
    • Franklin walking with Mr. Turtle
    • Beaver sitting down to talk about which pet Franklin will get
    • Mrs. Turtle consoles Franklin
    • Bear whistling to a bird and Franklin looking above
    • Franklin hugging Sam
    • Franklin fell down
    • Franklin cheering while Mr. and Mrs. Turtle agree on letting him get a pet
  • All of Franklin’s friends have suggestions for what pet Franklin wants, before he made his own choice:
    • Bear: Bird
    • Beaver: Kitten
    • Otter: Pony
    • Snail: Elephant
    • Goose: Dinosaur
  • Of all the ideas in the original book. only Bear, Beaver, and Goose have suggested pet ideas. While Bear and Beaver's ideas were the same, Goose's suggestion was a bunny (and her reason was wiggly whiskers; however, Franklin's reason for refusal is that whiskers might make him sneeze).
