Mrs. Warbler is a warbler who appears in the film Franklin and the Green Knight. She is very protective of her eggs, but proves helpful to Franklin and Snail.
Plot[]
Franklin and Snail have journeyed to a cherry tree near an old orchard, re-enacting The Quest of the Green Knight in the hopes of finding spring. The tree is in full bloom, despite the surrounding area being blanketed in the snow of winter. As they approach the tree, they find themselves harassed and harried by a yellow bird, who repeatedly dives and pecks at them. Eventually, Franklin removes the blanket that he is using for his Green Knight costume and traps the bird with it, but she pecks her way out. She then flies in front of them, shouting at them to leave her alone and telling them not to mess with her eggs. Snail declares that she must be the "Guardian of the Tree," a reference to the Lynx who served the same role in the Green Knight story.
Franklin tells her that they don't want her eggs and she relaxes a bit. She asks why they are there and they explain about their quest to bring spring to Woodland. The reasons, however, that Franklin states are selfish, saying that everyone will pay attention to him. Snail tells him that he's acting just like the Green Knight in the story, but Mrs. Warbler tells them to hold the thought, saying that she's feeling peckish. She asks them to watch over her eggs while she gets something to eat and flies away.
Snail tries to press Franklin on his motivations, but he just tells Snail that he's going to watch over the eggs like Mrs. Warbler asked. He climbs the tree and pulls out a glove, using the glove to keep them warm. When Mrs. Warbler returns, she sees Franklin's glove and tells him he did a good job taking care of the eggs. Franklin says that they'd best get going, having realized his selfishness. As he starts to walk away, Mrs. Warbler asks if he didn't want to bring spring to Woodland. He agrees that he did, that everyone in Woodland is worried about spring not coming and he wishes that they didn't have to worry. Mrs. Warbler tells him that this very unselfish of him and he's proven himself more than worthy. Flying up in front of the sun, she puts on a regal voice, decreeing that as Guardian of the Tree, she gives him permission to take as many blossoms as he needs. "Really?" he asks her and, returning to much more matter of fact voice, she tells him "Yeah, knock yourself out." Franklin then takes some blossoms, sniffing them happily, and he and Snail take their leave.
